Short version
- We collect what you give us (account details, your workouts, your body weight, your training preferences) and a little technical information so the app works.
- We use it to run the app, sync your data across your devices, provide your subscription, and provide support. We do not sell your personal information and we do not show ads.
- Apple Health data is optional and read-only. It is read on your device to show your Apple workouts in your timeline. It is not uploaded to our servers and it is never used for advertising or marketing.
- You can delete your account and data in the app at any time.
1. Information we collect
Account information. When you sign in with Apple we receive your Apple account identifier and, depending on your choices, your name and an email address (which may be an Apple private-relay address). If you sign up with email, we receive your email address and a password, which is handled by our authentication provider and is not readable by us.
Profile and training information you provide. Depending on what you choose to answer or enter: training goal, experience level, available equipment, joints or areas you want to go easy on, height, date of birth, sex, and your preferred units.
Health and fitness information. Workouts you log (exercises, sets, reps, weight, durations, rest, difficulty ratings, mood), your body-weight entries, and information derived from them (such as volume totals, personal records, and estimated calories). Areas you tell us to go easy on can reflect a physical condition or injury.
Preferences and app activity. Exercises you like or dislike, saved workouts, your selected skin, progress toward skin unlocks (lifetime workout count and total weight moved), and your settings.
Subscription information. Whether you have an active subscription, which plan, and its dates. Apple processes your payment; we do not receive your card details. Our subscription provider receives a purchase receipt and an identifier that links your purchase to your account.
Messages to us. If you contact us, we receive your message and the information you include, along with basic technical details such as your app version and iOS version to help us fix problems.
Technical information. Your app version, iOS version, time zone, and when you were last active. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in the app.
Apple Health (optional). If you choose to connect Apple Health, the app reads your workouts from Apple Health on your device (activity type, times, duration, energy burned, distance, and the source app or device). This information is displayed on your device and is not uploaded to our servers or stored in our database. You control access in Hard Mode Settings and in the iOS Settings app under Health.
2. How we use information
- To provide the Service: create and secure your account, save and sync your workouts and preferences, and generate workout suggestions and progress views.
- To provide, manage, and verify your subscription and to unlock features and skins you have earned.
- To respond to your messages, provide support, and fix problems.
- To protect the Service, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
- To improve the Service using information about how the features work, without identifying you individually where we can avoid it.
We do not use your health or fitness information, including anything from Apple Health, for advertising, marketing, or data mining, and we do not sell it or share it with data brokers.
3. How we share information
We share personal information only in these situations:
- Service providers that process data for us under contract, including Google (Firebase: authentication, database, and cloud functions), RevenueCat (subscription management), and, when you contact us, an email delivery provider. They may use the data only to provide services to us.
- Apple, for Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, and Apple Health, under Apple's own terms and privacy policy.
- Legal and safety. When required by law or valid legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and property.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy's protections.
- With your direction or consent.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. Where we operate
Hard Mode is offered only to people located in the United States, and your information is processed and stored in the United States by us and our service providers.
5. Retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account in the app; this permanently deletes your profile, workouts, body-weight entries, and preferences from our systems. Copies may remain briefly in backups and logs until they are overwritten on their normal schedule. We may keep limited information where the law requires it or where needed to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription; manage that through Apple.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including encryption in transit, access controls, and authentication managed by our providers. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password.
7. Your choices and rights
In the app. You can edit much of your profile information, disconnect Apple Health in Hard Mode Settings or in iOS Settings under Health, and delete your account and data in the app.
State privacy rights. If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or Virginia, or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may have these rights, which are not absolute and may be limited by law:
- to know whether we process your personal information, and to access it and get a copy;
- to correct inaccuracies in it;
- to request that we delete it;
- to withdraw consent where we rely on your consent (including for sensitive data such as health information);
- to opt out of targeted advertising, the sale or sharing of personal information, and profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We do none of these, so there is nothing to opt out of;
- to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we use it only to provide the Service you asked for); and
- not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
Depending on your state, you may also be able to obtain a list of the categories of third parties (or the specific third parties) to which we have disclosed personal information.
How to make a request. Email support@gethardmode.com or write to Works Pretty Good LLC, 2248 Broadway #2262, New York, NY 10024. If you are signed in to the app, deleting your account in Settings is the fastest way to delete your data.
Verification and authorized agents. To protect you, we need to confirm that a request really comes from you, and we will use only the information in your request or already in your account for that. If you use an authorized agent, we may ask for your signed written permission and may deny the request without proof of authority. Where the law gives a deadline, we will respond within it.
Appeals. If we decline to act on your request, you may appeal by replying to our response or emailing support@gethardmode.com with the subject "Appeal." We will tell you in writing what we decided and why. If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general.
California "Shine the Light." California residents may ask once a year for the categories of personal information we disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes in the prior year. We do not disclose personal information for third-party direct marketing.
Do Not Track. The app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and there is no uniform standard for Do Not Track signals. We do not respond to them.
See also our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy for additional information about health-related data. We do not knowingly offer the Service to residents of other countries.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are under the age required in your country to consent to processing of personal data, you may not use the Service. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If we make a material change we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The effective date at the top shows when it was last updated.
